Pathfinder Bank and Enfact: Protecting Customers against Fraud

Pathfinder Bank and Enfact: Protecting Customers against Fraud

06/08/2021

At Pathfinder Bank, we use a combination of security features to help protect your accounts against various types of fraud, from local scams to nationwide data breaches and more.

Enfact, our fraud monitoring system, is a powerful tool that is constantly working to catch suspicious activity on your debit card accounts. When unusual activity is detected, Enfact will contact you via phone to verify that the transactions made, or those attempting to be made, are coming from you and not a scammer. Changes in purchase locations (when a U.S. issued card is used unexpectedly overseas), an increase in costly purchases or a significant change in spending habits could be determined as potential fraud.

It can be unexpected and perhaps unsettling to receive a phone call asking you about your purchase history – especially if you’re away on vacation or don’t recall making out of the ordinary purchases recently. However, it’s important to keep in mind that a call from Enfact is an example of Pathfinder Bank’s fraud protection working to guard your identity and your accounts. More importantly, we urge you to respond to these calls. Failing to do so may leave the door open for fraud to occur or result in your card being frozen from future use in order to prevent it.

What number will Enfact call me from?

Calls from Enfact will ONLY come from the number 1-877-253-8965.

What will happen during the call?

Enfact will let you know that they are calling you on behalf of Pathfinder Bank. They may ask a few questions to verify your identity, and will then ask you to verify recent transaction activity on your card (for example, “Did you recently make a purchase in the amount of $25 at XYZ Store?”).

  • Enfact’s automated call will ask you to verify recent transaction activity on your card
  • You will be given a case number
  • You will also be provided a toll-free number to call should you have additional questions

Please be advised that Enfact will not ask for the following: Social Security Number, pin number, or bank account information (such as account number)

If you’re able to confirm that you’re the one who made transactions, the call will wrap up. If you confirm that the activity is fraudulent, more steps will be taken (see below).

What happens if I miss the call?

Should you miss their call, Enfact will leave a voicemail, which will include a case number. As soon as possible, and with your case number ready, contact Enfact at 1-877-253-8965 to verify the suspicious transactions. Failure to do so may result in your Pathfinder Bank Visa Debit Card being restricted or cancelled to avoid future fraud.

If you have any questions, please contact our Electronic Commerce Department during business hours at 1-800-811-5620 or 315-207-8042.

What happens if my card information has actually been compromised?

In the event that you confirm fraud has taken place, your card will be blocked or restricted to prevent additional fraudulent transactions from posting, and Pathfinder Bank will cancel your card.

From there, you’ll need to contact our Electronic Commerce Department during normal business hours at 1-800-811-5620 or 315-207-8042 or stop into a branch – to verify that your card has been closed and that no fraudulent activity has cleared your account.  We will send you a new card or you can stop into one of our conveniently located branches to have a new card printed same day.

In some cases, you’ll want to find out who stole your information and press charges. This will require filing a police report.

What are best practices to ensure Enfact works as it should?

  • We ask that you take a moment to confirm that we have all your current phone numbers on file with us – including home and mobile numbers. Enfact will call any number you have listed on file in an attempt to alert you of unusual activity.
    • You can make sure your information is up to date by calling us directly at 315-343-0057, updating your information via your Online Banking, or stopping by your local branch.
  • If you will be travelling outside of thehttps://www.pathfinderbank.com/about-us/locate-us/locations-hours.html US, notify Pathfinder Bank and provide us with the dates of travel, countries that you will be visiting and a phone number that you can be reached at while traveling.
  • Add Enfact’s automated call center’s number into your phone contacts in case you need to follow up with them while you are travelling: 1-877-253-8965.

Thank you for your participation in keeping your information safe and secure. It is our goal to protect our customers against fraudulent activity and to ensure that your finances are safe!
